What time do CPI, the jobs report and Fed decisions come out in Hawaiʻi time?
The monthly CPI inflation report and the monthly jobs report come out at 8:30 am Eastern Time. That is 2:30 am HST from early March to early November and 3:30 am HST in winter. Federal Reserve interest rate decisions come out at 2:00 pm Eastern, which is 8:00 am HST in summer and 9:00 am HST in winter.
What are the next report times in HST?
These are the next dates posted by the government agencies, shown in Hawaiʻi time. Agencies can change their dates, so check their pages the week before.
| Date (2026) | Report | Time in HST |
|---|---|---|
| Wednesday, October 28 | Federal Reserve decision | 8:00 am |
| Friday, November 6 | Jobs report (Employment Situation) | 3:30 am |
| Tuesday, November 10 | CPI (consumer prices) | 3:30 am |
| Friday, December 4 | Jobs report (Employment Situation) | 3:30 am |
| Wednesday, December 9 | Federal Reserve decision | 9:00 am |
| Thursday, December 10 | CPI (consumer prices) | 3:30 am |
Why do the November dates show 3:30 am?
The mainland changes its clocks on Sunday, November 1, 2026. Reports after that date land one hour later in Hawaiʻi: 3:30 am HST instead of 2:30 am.
Why should a Hawaiʻi trader care about a report at 3:30 am?
Prices can jump in seconds when a big report comes out, and the gap between the buy price and the sell price can get wider. If you hold a trade overnight in Hawaiʻi, a report can move it while you sleep.
A stop order can also fill worse than your stop price in a fast market. Futures 101, Lesson 3, explains why.
What should I do on report days?
Check the report calendar the night before. Decide ahead of time: be flat before the report, or wait until the first fast minutes are over.
- Write the report time in HST on your plan for the day.
- Use a smaller size, or no trade, if your plan does not cover report days.
- Do not use a market order in the first seconds after a release.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting the clock change and missing a report by one hour.
- Holding a trade overnight without checking the report calendar.
- Trading the first seconds after a release with a market order.
