What is a consistency rule in a prop firm evaluation?
A consistency rule limits how much of your total gain can come from your single best day. With a 50 percent rule and $3,000 in total gains, no single day can be $1,500 or more. If one day is too big, some firms raise your target and some hold your payout until your other days catch up.
How do I check my own numbers?
Divide your best day by your total gain. If the answer is above the firm's limit, the rule is not met yet.
Made-up example: your best day is $1,200 and your total gain is $2,000. That is 60 percent. Under a 50 percent rule, your total gain must grow above $2,400 before your best day counts as half or less.
What consistency rules do firms use?
Each firm uses its own number, and some use none in the evaluation. These are the $50,000 plans, from each firm's pages, checked on October 10, 2026.
| Firm (A to Z) | Consistency rule in the evaluation |
|---|---|
| Apex Trader Funding | None in the evaluation |
| Lucid Trading (LucidFlex) | 50 percent, evaluation only |
| My Funded Futures (Builder) | None in the evaluation |
| Take Profit Trader | Best day below 50 percent of total gains; over that, the goal rises |
| Topstep | Best day 55 percent of the profit target or less; over that, the target rises |
| Tradeify (Select) | 40 percent (a 50 percent version costs more) |
Rules change often. The firm's own page always wins.
Why do firms use a consistency rule?
The firms do not all say. In practice, the rule stops one lucky day from passing the test, and it pushes you to trade the same way every day.
How do I trade with a consistency rule?
Use the same size every day and set a daily stop for gains as well as losses. If you hit a big day, do not try to repeat it with bigger size.
Common mistakes
- Passing the target in one big day and then finding the target moved.
- Reading the evaluation rule and missing a different rule for the funded account.
- Raising size to fix the rule faster.
